How I work

For Adult Counselling Services

Consultation Call

From receiving your enquiry, we will organise a free consultation call at a mutually convenient time. I allow 20 minutes for this call. This helps me learn a little about you and your reason for contacting me. For you, this gives you the opportunity to learn about how I work, ask questions and decide if you feel comfortable talking to me.

If we both agree to work together then during this call we can arrange your initial appointment.

Initial Session

At your first session we will discuss and agree a contract of working together. I will ask you questions about your life, your history and we will start to explore the issues or challenges you wish to work through.  At the end of this session we will agree the regularity of sessions moving forward.

Ongoing Sessions

After the initial session we will then continue to work together to explore your world and the areas you wish to focus on.  We will also discuss and agree when to review the counselling experience so that we can reflect on your progress and how you are finding the therapeutic relationship.  This can also help to work towards completion and endings.

For Child/Young Person Counselling Services
Consultation Assessment Session

When arranging sessions for a child or young person, on receipt of your enquiry I will email you a client referral form for you to complete and return to me, this helps me assess whether I would be suitable to work with your child/young person. From here we will organise an initial assessment appointment with you, the parent/carer/guardian. This session is for you to meet with me to share your concerns and for me to learn more about your child/young person. I will also share how I work and we formulate a plan for regular sessions for the child/young person and regular reviews to discuss our ongoing working alliance for the well-being of child/young personr. We will also discuss and agree a contract.

Child/Young Person Initial Session
At the child/young person's first session I generally invite the parent/carer/guardian to attend until the child feels comfortable for them to leave (especially for children under 14 years of age). I will discuss and agree a contract of working together with the child/young person and begin to develop the therapeutic relationship.
Ongoing Sessions

After the initial session I will continue to work together with the child/young person to explore their world and the areas they wish to focus on using a child/young person-led approach. This may involve play, art, games, creative expression or talk therapy.

Walk & Talk

Sometimes it can feel uncomfortable working in a seated face to face environment. With this in mind I offer walk and talk therapy sessions.

These sessions consist of meeting at a local country park where we walk together as you share and experience the therapeutic process outside in nature.

For more information about these sessions please do contact me.
